Sunday 7th August – bike ***** – Around Felixstowe including breakfast near Kirton Creek – sunny and warm.

Being another hot and sunny day with light winds we decide to head out for breakfast today leaving home around 9.20. Mag suggests the River Deben just past Kirton Creek so this turns out to be one of our longer rides, over 21 miles. So, its past the Grove to Candlet Lane and onto Kirton using mainly footpaths and bridle way enjoying the peaceful beauty of Suffolk’s rolling countryside, just perfect:) We arrive at Kirton Creek talking the river path to our spot right on the banks of the river, with the tide low there was plenty of mud. We have a lovely breakfast being entertained by some noisy black headed gulls, a tern, a fishing cormorant, a fly past from a egret and a turn sitting on a bouy with loads of fish in the shallows and then the highlight as we spotted a couple of seals splashing about further up the river. There were several yachts out despite the light airs, a couple of jet bikes whizz past and then there were two what we thought were paddle boards but they turned out to be peddle boards which look like fun! Well rested to we head up to Hemley church, then take a top bridle way near Kembrook kennels which is very up and down! Past Falkenham Church and down past Kings Fleet. At the Deben Mag returrns up Marsh Lane while I continue to Felixstowe Ferry where the two peddle boards are on the shore with the couple in the café! I continue past the golf course and there seem a good enough breeze to foil. I bump into windsurfing mate Neil Hurrrell who had paddled here from The Manor with Alan. He says it is only 10 knots at Landguard so we have a chat mainly about foiling as we have very similar kit now! Then back slowly along the busy prom for lunch before doing my exercises in the back garden! No wind tomorrow but I think thee is a run of east to north east winds are coming, might even get another fin!
